Summer School Overview

The Tbilisi Museums Union offers school students a unique opportunity to participate in a fully funded summer school, “Journey Through Georgian Heritage,” from July 8 to 19.

During the two weeks, participants will visit various museums within the Tbilisi Museums Union and learn about prominent figures from the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Ilia Chavchavadze, Nikoloz Baratashvili, Galaktion Tabidze, Zakaria Paliashvili, Vakhtang Chabukiani, and Kote and Soso Tsereteli. Through their dedication and sacrifice under severe repression, these individuals created, preserved, and brought to us the rich Georgian cultural heritage that forms the foundation of Georgia’s identity today.

Participants will engage in educational programs, interactive games, and practical workshops, take an adapted project management module, and create final projects based on the knowledge they have gained.

Objective

The summer school aims to ignite interest in our country’s rich historical, cultural, and artistic heritage among students through interactive and age-appropriate activities.

The mission of the Tbilisi Museums Union is to protect and popularize Georgia’s rich cultural heritage, focusing on education and science as the most effective means to achieve this.

Mission and Values

– Cultural Heritage Preservation: Through tours and educational programs, participants will learn about the historical and cultural significance of the exhibits housed in the museums.

– Educational Focus: The summer school emphasizes interactive learning, critical thinking, and creativity.

– Community Engagement: Engaging children in interactive activities and group projects fosters a sense of community and shared cultural identity.

What Will Participants Learn?

– Historical Knowledge: By learning about the lives of significant historical figures, participants will understand important periods in Georgia’s 19th and 20th centuries.

– Interest in Art and Literature: Museum tours and literary games will spark an interest in art and literature.

– Creative Skills: Practical workshops, including hands-on sessions, will make the acquired knowledge tangible.

– Critical Thinking Skills: Educational programs and project management sessions will help participants develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

– Project Management: Participants will learn the basics of project management, including planning, organizing, executing, and presenting a final project.

– Collaboration and Teamwork: Working on group projects and participating in interactive activities will teach participants the importance of collaboration and effective communication.

Final Project: “Our Heritage”

The children will implement a final project based on the knowledge and skills acquired over the two weeks. Each group (approximately 4-5 children per group) will work on a joint project encompassing the following components:

– Cultural Heritage Research: Groups will choose a specific theme or figure (Ilia Chavchavadze, Nikoloz Baratashvili, Galaktion Tabidze, Zakaria Paliashvili, Vakhtang Chabukiani, Kote and Soso Tsereteli) and conduct a brief study of their life and work.

– Practical Component: The group will create a project or exhibit around the chosen theme.

– Presentation: Each group will present their final project to a broad audience.

– Exhibition: The groups’ works will be exhibited in the museum.

Objectives:

– Collaboration and Teamwork: Participants will learn to work together and manage a project.

– Critical Thinking and Research: Participants will gain experience searching and analyzing information.

– Creative Skills: Participants will create handmade items, enhancing cognitive skills.

– Presentation Skills: Participants will learn to present and explain their work.
