Galaktion Tabidze’s literary career began in the 1910s of the 20th century. From the very beginning, he earned the titles of “the genius Galaktion” and “the king of poets.” For several decades now, Galaktion Tabidze’s work has stood as an unsurpassed peak in modern poetry. Over the years, there has not been a single generation of poets unaffected by his influence. His poems have been translated into numerous languages around the world.

IMG 6271 3 1024x683 - GALAKTION TABIDZE MEMORIAL HOUSE-MUSEUM

On March 21, 1999, in Tbilisi, at 4 Marjanishvili Street, the Galaktion Tabidze Memorial Museum was opened by the decree No. 188 of the President of Georgia, Eduard Shevardnadze, dated March 16, 1999. The museum was established through the initiative and support of the Georgian Writers’ Union and was inaugurated exactly forty years after the poet's burial — on March 21, 1999.

The memorial museum of the great Georgian poet Galaktion Tabidze (1891–1959) is located in the house where he spent the final years of his life (1935–1959). The writer’s study and living space have been almost entirely preserved and restored in their original form.

Rehabilitation and renovation works at the Galaktion Tabidze Memorial House-Museum began in April 2019, and on July 22, 2020, it was officially reopened to visitors and the public. The museum has fully preserved both the memorial character of the house-museum and all modern museum requirements: the exhibition spaces are designed according to contemporary museological standards, and the displays present the life and biography of Galaktion Tabidze in chronological order. Alongside personal belongings, the museum holds photographs, manuscripts, and other documents that together serve as a kind of chronicle of Galaktion’s life.
