“Georgian Culture and the 20th Century” is a multidisciplinary project aiming to engage researchers from various disciplines to construct a multifaceted depiction of the connection between the era and the artist.
The mission of the Tbilisi Museums Union is to give museums a new role in modern society, which can be described as a synthesis of the preservation of traditional museum activities and the educational aspect, within which the focus is on sharing knowledge with each person.
In the 20th century, art fell into a strict ideological framework. However, paradoxically, under dictatorship and severe ideological pressure, a cultural life based on national roots – theater, painting, literature, and other branches of art – still existed in Soviet Georgia. Considering the period and its context, it’s impossible to envision traditional museum activities without era-specific analysis and contextual understanding.
In studying Georgian art from the 1900s, one area of focus involves exploring different aspects of Vakhtang Chabukiani’s life and work. This research delves deeply into understanding his creativity and biography within the context of the times, considering the cultural and socio-political conditions. The research should focus on issues that have not been investigated about Vakhtang Chabukian and ballet art and the artistic field.
The multidisciplinary research project encompasses two primary elements: “Vakhtang Chabukiani and the 20th Century” and “Third Facet.” The project aims to construct a comprehensive portrayal of the interconnection between the artist and the era from various perspectives.
The project’s final conference will be held under the auspices of the Tbilisi Museums Union on September 19-20, 2019.
