In Timisoara, Romania, the European Academy of Museums (EMA) inaugurated its annual conference from September 14-16, 2023, marking the city’s distinction as the European Capital of Culture for the year. This gathering, renowned as a cornerstone event in the museum sector, brought together diverse experts, including museum directors, curators, and theorists, fostering a platform for the exchange of insights and ideas crucial to museum innovation.
At EMA 2023, Nini Sanadiradze, the General Director of the Tbilisi Museums Union, delivered a presentation spotlighting the remarkable evolution of the Union. Her focus encompassed the revitalization of museums within the Union, advancements in exhibition design, and their pioneering educational initiatives.
Founded in honor of museologist Kenneth Hudson in 2009, the European Academy of Museums serves as a tie between professionals across various museum-related fields. This year’s choice of Timisoara as the conference host city underscores its status as the European Capital of Culture, earned through the city’s commitment to fostering cultural growth and opportunities, as recognized by the European Union’s annual competition, a tradition initiated in 1985.
The EMA 2023 conference offered a rich program comprising keynote speeches, meetings, discussions, mentoring sessions, and external workshops.
