As part of the 2023 International Museum Day celebrations, a walking-cognitive tour titled “Nobelians in Tbilisi” took place. The objective of the Tbilisi Museums Union was to introduce visitors and interested individuals to the influential figures who significantly shaped Georgian culture during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Georgia has welcomed thirty-five Nobel Prize laureates across various periods, recognized for their exceptional achievements and significant contributions to global science, art, literature, and peace. These laureates have left indelible marks on the world stage through their remarkable endeavors and insights. A distinguished group, including Fridtjof Nansen, Gustav Herz, Igor Tami, Niels Bohr, Mikhail Sholokhov, Boris Pasternak, John Steinbeck, Mother Teresa, Andrei Sakharov, Shimon Peres, Karl Alex Müller, Johann Georg Bednorz, Aaron Chehanover, Orhan Pamuk, and Svetlana Alevich, graced Georgia as guests. This list includes physicists, writers, and public figures who visited different Georgian cities before receiving their prestigious awards.

The showcased route offers a glimpse into Georgia’s history from the late 19th to the mid-20th century, highlighting the nation’s artistic, cultural, educational, and academic contributions. This experience invites participants to explore Tbilisi’s significance and the country’s allure through the lens of its intriguing interactions with diverse and influential foreign guests, aligning with European interests.

The walking tour was held on May 23, 2023

The cognitive walking tour started at the Nikoloz Baratashvili Memorial House Museum, where Nini Sanadiradze, the General Director of the Tbilisi Museums Union, welcomed participants. Leading the tour toward Anchiskhati, Nini Sanadiradze guided the initial phase, followed by Tamar Sikharulidze, the exhibition manager of the Ilia Chavchavadze Literary Memorial Museum, who conducted the subsequent part of the walking tour.
