The opening event of the 2023 National Teacher Award took place at the Tbilisi Museums Union – Ilia Chavchavadze Literary Memorial Museum. Simultaneously, the period for nominations and applications was officially launched.

Organized by the Education Coalition, this competition is now in its seventh year. It seeks to identify exceptional teachers, showcase their achievements to the public, and elevate the respect for the teaching profession.

During the event, the organizers talked about the competition’s criteria, campaign phases, the esteemed jury, backers, and the culminating grand finale. Additionally, the Education Coalition and Alte University prepared to sign a memorandum of collaboration. This agreement solidifies Alte University as a partner of the esteemed National Teacher Award, wherein they will confer an award to the chosen educator during the 2023 ultimate ceremony. In addition, Alte University will be the exclusive partner of the National Teacher Award.

“For the seventh time, we embark on the National Teacher Award campaign, proudly celebrating its status as the most renowned, esteemed, and acclaimed professional competition in our nation. A key driving force behind this distinction is a successful collaboration between stakeholders from both public and private sectors, alongside a distinguished jury comprising individuals highly regarded in the field of education and society at large. This year brings exciting developments to our journey. We proudly welcome two new members to the award jury: Lika Ghlonti, leading the EU4Dialogue project, and Davit Gorgiladze, a renowned writer. Additionally, we’re happy to announce Alte University as a new supporter of this initiative. While there are no substantive technical or procedural changes, everything remains familiar to the teachers. We anticipate and encourage their continued active participation,” said Irina Khantadze, Chairperson of the Education Coalition board.

Nominations for teachers and receipt of applications for the National Teacher Award will be open on the website www.tprize.ge from March 17 to April 30. This opportunity is extended to individuals, organizations, and public groups to nominate teachers for this esteemed recognition.

During the first stage, all applications will undergo technical checks. Subsequently, ten exceptional contestants will be identified for the second stage. By September 5 of this year, the names of the five finalists will be presented in the third stage. From this distinguished pool, one outstanding educator will claim the National Teacher’s Award on October 5, World Teacher’s Day. The selection process of contestants will be overseen by a jury comprised of 20 members. The jury consists of education specialists, scientists, teachers, and media representatives.

The National Teacher Award is sponsored by the Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili Foundation as the main sponsor, with Liberty Bank as the gold sponsor. EPAM Georgia, CTC, and Alte University also support the initiative. Additionally, Ilia State University, the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Center for Professional Development of Teachers, First Channel – Teleschool, and “Maverick” digital agency are valuable supporters of this recognition platform.

The first “National Teacher Award” took place in 2017, thus laying the foundation for the largest-scale campaign advancing and honoring the teaching profession. This project received widespread acclaim within the educational community and society at large, earning recognition for its success and positive reception among teachers and education stakeholders.
