As part of Ilia Thursdays, on March 16, Paata Zakareishvili’s public lecture “Ilia and the Tolerance” was held at the Tbilisi Museums Union – Ilia Chavchavadze Literary Memorial Museum.

The guest speaker discussed Ilia Chavchavadze’s publicist influence on shaping 19th-century Georgian national identity and civic consciousness and highlighted the significance of social structure, responsibility, human rights, and compassion underscored within Ilia’s vividly expressive letters.

The speaker further explored Ilia’s contemporary relevance, emphasizing that the primary cornerstone for a modern democratic civil society remains tolerance. Paata Zakareishvili added that tolerance encompasses freedom coupled with a sense of responsibility, advocating for the advancement of human rights, democracy, and adherence to the rule of law.
