“The Power of Museums”
The International Museum Day, initiated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, is commemorated annually. It aims to emphasize the museum’s significance in the advancement of society.
“Museums’ Influence” serves as a chance to create socio-economic stability, advance the integration and enhancement of digital innovations, and through educational resources, captivate, inform, and involve the public. The museums within the Tbilisi Museums Union are actively and effectively spreading their influence across these three outlined domains.
The Memorial House Museums within the Union serve as spaces for discovery and learning. They present our past without interpretation, sparking inspiration and allowing us the freedom to shape our perspectives.

Jean’s Birthday at the Museum
Levi Strauss initially crafted jeans for American gold miners. He visited the settlement of gold seekers, providing them with trousers that he improved based on their feedback and needs. Despite this effort, the demand for Strauss’s products declined because the pockets, designed to hold tools and withstand self-cleaning, couldn’t endure the weight of gold and tended to break easily. In response, Jacob Davis invented the copper rivet, which strengthened the pockets. He lacked the $68 needed to patent the invention, so Jacob Davis asked for help from Levi Strauss. Their collaboration was successfully launched on May 20, 1873, for the creation of riveted jeans. Over time, jeans evolved into a symbol of freedom, favored by rebellious hippies who opposed societal norms and protested against the Vietnam War and violence.
