On the occasion of the 130th birthday of the esteemed poet Galaktion Tabidze, the Tbilisi Museums Union is organizing a series of three public lectures at the poet’s memorial house museum from November 15th to 19th as part of the commemorative week:

 

  1. “The Influence of the Epoch in the Creativity of Galaktion” – Rostom Chkheidze;
  2. “Psycho-portrait of Galaktion” – Ilia Nikachadze;
  3. “Galaktion’s Europe” – Vakhtang Javakhadze.

 

On November 15, the general director of the Tbilisi Museums Union, Nini Sanadiradze, will open the week.

Rostom Chkheidze – “The Influence of the Epoch in the Creativity of Galaktion”

 

The lecture aims to explore Galaktion Tabidze’s life across significant periods in Georgian history: Tsarist Russia (1891-1917), the era of independence (1918-1921), and Soviet rule (1921-1959). It will examine the social, political, and cultural challenges of each era and their profound impact on the poet’s life and literary contributions.

Ilia Nikachadze – “Psycho-portrait of Galaktion”

 

Galaktion was a mysterious figure, veiled in solitude, known for acting differently. People felt something unique about him, which led to stories being told about him while he was alive.

Described by his brother Absalom as a “big child born on a strange star,” Galaktion’s personality remained intriguing. Now, 130 years after his birth, psychologist Ilia Nikachadze offers a psychological profile of Galaktion, shedding light on his enigmatic character from a psychological perspective.

Vakhtang Javakhadze – “Galaktion’s Europe”

Galaktion Tabidze’s writing was notably shaped by Western, especially European, literature and poetry. Evidence of this lies in the epigraphs of his key book, “Skull of Artistic Flowers,” featuring symbolic content from French poets.
