The week dedicated to the International Museums Day
May 18-25, 2021
“The Future of Museums: Restoration and Transformation”
The week dedicated to the 2021 International Museums Day will be opened with dozens of events and educational program activities in the museums included in the Tbilisi Museums Union.
As a global voice for museums worldwide, ICOM upholds the significance of both natural and cultural heritage. In our current landscape, museums confront socio-economic and environmental challenges. As guardians of historical and contemporary legacies, museums contribute significantly to the journey of sustainable development, fostering education and inclusivity for the development of future generations.
International Museum Day highlights that “museums are crucial agents for cultural exchange, fostering the enrichment of cultures and developing mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace among diverse communities.”
International Museum Day is traditionally celebrated on May 18. The ICOM Advisory Board selects a theme for this day each year, and the theme for International Museum Day 2021 is “The Future of Museums: Restoration and Transformation”.
The Tbilisi Museums Union expects interested individuals to attend free educational programs within the framework of the International Museums Week in various museum spaces of the Union from May 18-25.
