The Union of Museums of Tbilisi City Hall hosted the first international conference “Georgia and the XX Century” on September 19-20 at the Nadzaladevi Media Library of the Tbilisi Union of Multifunctional Libraries. The conference is based on the analysis of real facts and historical documents and its aim is to present the culture and art of the twentieth century with different names and facts, in different contexts of the epoch and environment and to explore parallel cultural processes.

“The idea of the conference started with meetings in two museums of public unification, Vakhtang Chabukini Memorial House-Museum and Zakaria Paliashvili Memorial House-Museum, where active debates and public lectures on twentieth century Georgian culture were held. The meetings and lectures were led by people from different professions, talking about the epoch-making context and epoch-making realities that accompanied the 20th century. It should be noted that many debates have been raised on the topic, which are still very carefully discussed by the older generation. ” – Nini Sanadiradze, General Director of The Union of Museums.

The conference was attended by both local and foreign researchers from Poland and Turkey.
The speakers spoke about the work of artists of different spheres of the last century, epoch and culture in general during the totalitarian regime.

The two-day international conference ended with a visit by the participants to the Kote and Soso Tsereteli Memorial House-Museum.
