The Tbilisi Museums Union presented a new publication “Letters from the Past” on June 1 within the framework of the Tbilisi International Book Festival.

Vakhtang Javakhadze and General Director of Tbilisi Museum Union Nini Sanadiradze led the presentation.

“Letters from the Past” compiles materials kept in museum archives and storages. This publication features archival content, presenting unpublished letters of prominent public figures from Georgia’s recent history.

The publication features the personal letters of Ilia Chavchavadze, Olga Guramishvili, Ekaterine Gabashvili, Marjorie Wardrop, Nikoloz Baratashvili, Galaktion Tabidze, Olga Okujava, Meliton Balanchivadze, Zakaria Paliashvili, Kalistrate Tsintsadze, Ivane Ratishvili, Ilia Zurabishvili, Mikheil Javakhishvili, Vakhtang Chabukiani, Galina Kuznetsova, Merab Kostava and Kote and Soso Tsereteli, which go beyond personal exchanges, bearing significant historical value. As readers engage with these materials, they’re immersed in the era’s political, economic, and social backdrop, exploring personal narratives, beliefs, mental nuances, and distinct language styles. This connection breathes life into museum exhibits, offering a vivid snapshot of the past.

At the international book festival, visitors had the chance to explore publications from the of Tbilisi Museums Union showcased at the joint exhibit of the Union of Tbilisi City Hall and Tbilisi Multifunctional Libraries. Additionally, works like “Life and Creativity of Zakaria Paliashvili,” “Collection of Dolls and Toys-Album,” “Galaktion and Tbilisi,” “Letters from the Past”, and boardgame “Flirt” were featured in the “Sezani” publishing house and “Santa Esperanza” bookstore areas.
