Exhibition dedicated to Ivane Askurava’s artwork and a gift to the Museum

21 - Exhibition dedicated to Ivane Askurava's artwork and a gift to the Museum

At the Tbilisi Museums Union – Vakhtang Chabukiani Memorial House Museum, an exhibition honoring the contributions of Ivane Askurava, a prominent figure in Georgian scenography during the 20th century, was opened as part of the “Painting in Ballet” exhibition series. At that time, the heirs of Ivane Askurava generously gifted the museum with a sketch related to the ballet “Demon.”

The exhibition showcases items sourced from Ivane Askurava’s family archives, containing ballet performance sketches, and designs for operas and dramatic productions—many of which have yet to be introduced to the public. Of particular significance within the collection is the collaborative work between Ivane Askurava and the esteemed ballet master, Vakhtang Chabukiani. Askurava signed almost twenty ballet performances of Chabukiani’s “Heart of the Mountains”, “Giselle”, “Laurencia”, “Gorda”, “For Peace”, “Demon”, “Walpurgi’s Night” and others.

The visitor will have the opportunity to see exhibits from the ballet performances “Laurencia”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Bayadere”, “Faust”, “Don Quixote”, “Demon”, from the play “Tosca” created together with the director Vakhtang Tabliashvili, from the opera play “The Troubadour”.

The exhibition will last until December 22.
