The Union of Museums of Tbilisi City Hall hosted the second international conference – “Semitological Research” on October 15, 16 and 17 in the conference hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia.
The conference was dedicated to the memory of Kote (Konstantine) Tsereteli, a world-famous Semitologist, linguist, and the founder of Hebrew-Aramaic studies in Georgia.
The conference was first held in 2017. It was then that it was announced to a wide audience that in order to strengthen the scientific directions, the Tbilisi Kote and Soso Tsereteli Museum planned to continue the tradition and establish a Kote Tsereteli Scientific Research Center on the basis of the museum.
On February 5, 2018, The Tbilisi Museums Union announced the establishment of this scientific-research center to the public. The main goal of the center is to promote the scientific-research activities of the Georgian Semitological School, both locally and worldwide.
This year’s conference was attended by scholars working in the field of Hebrew-Aramaic from 5 countries (Georgia, Israel, Germany, Russia, Iraq). The opening of the conference was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Georgia Shaftai Tsuri.
