Conference “Semitic Researches”

2 - Conference “Semitic Researches”

The international conference “Semitic Researches”, hosted by The Tbilisi Museums Union, took place in the conference hall of the “National Parliamentary Library of Georgia” on September 16th and 17th. The conference was dedicated to the memory of Academician Kote (Konstantine) Tsereteli, a globally renowned semiologist and linguist who laid the foundations for Hebrew and Aramaic studies in Georgia.

Kote (Konstantine) Tsereteli (1921-2004) led the department of Semiology at the Institute since the inception of Oriental Studies in the Georgian Academy of Sciences in 1960. His extensive work in Aramaic dialectology significantly contributed to the field’s comprehensive study and fostered its advancement in global Oriental Studies.

The conference welcomed professors specializing in Hebrew and Aramaic studies from four countries: Georgia, Israel, Germany, and England. Aligned with the 2017 Strategy of the Tbilisi Museums Union, the Union aims to reinforce scientific pursuits by establishing the Kote Tsereteli Scientific Research Center. This center, to be established on the foundation of the Kote & Soso Tsereteli Museum, endeavors to support and promote Semitic Studies research in Georgia on an international scale.
