NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

2 - NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

The Tbilisi Museums Union participated in the “Night at the Museum” initiative, established in 2005 by the Council of Europe. This global event, observed annually by numerous countries worldwide, aims to celebrate culture and heritage.

On May 27, 2017, the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia organized the “Night at the Museum” initiative. Nearly every museum across Georgia extended its opening hours until 1:00 a.m., allowing visitors to explore and engage with exhibits during this special event for free.

The Tbilisi Museums Union has embraced the theme “Museums and Contested Histories: Saying the Unspeakable in Museums,” a focus adopted by ICOM for the year. Museums play a crucial role in society by prompting essential inquiries about memory’s impact, either in shaping or fracturing a community. Through diverse museum methodologies and various approaches to presenting contested histories, museums provide valuable tools for critically engaging with and acknowledging the past. These approaches aim to facilitate dialogue, fostering reconciliation among differing memories.
